In an interview with Variety, Dungca said GRTA was awarded a $1.5 million grant from the Federal Transit Administration about three years ago for the purchase of new mass transit buses.
The transit agency has contracted with consultants Parson Brinckerhoff to put together the specifications of the 10 to 12 buses GRTA wants to acquire.
“Because these buses have special technical specifications as opposed to school buses, they must be Americans with Disabilities Act-compliant and ‘designed-to-feel’ buses — the specifications must be given to a manufacturer in the U.S. mainland…almost like a special order,” said Dungca.
