The total cost savings is $157,401 a year, said Troy Torres, the governor’s press secretary.
“I ordered the reduction in pay for ourselves and for our senior staff. This is a total of 25 of the island’s highest ranking officials who are leading by example by cutting their pay by 10 percent,” said the governor via Reorganization Advisory No. 4, issued yesterday.
The order will remain in effect until further notice. Calvo said the savings will go toward paying tax refunds.
Calvo said since January, when he took office, he cut personnel at the Governor’s Office by 16 percent, from a workforce of 95 employees to 80. He also reduced the number of special assistants and consolidated several divisions with his office.
Calvo thanked his staff, saying “their sacrifices signify the example we are willing to set to right-size this government once and for all.”
