Guam’s Oceanview Middle School under renovation

The renovation will also include the locker rooms which have not been used by students since 2008 because of their state of disrepair and leaks from the shower rooms, according to principal Lynda Hernandez-Avilla.

Former school administrator Johnny Rivera, who has been a strong proponent in getting the gym built, said it took long enough for the groundbreaking, and that although not much media coverage was given to the efforts of parents to get the government to move on the project, the groundbreaking solidified the commitment and the money for the building.

Z4 Corporation has been chosen to build the gym, which should be built within 180 days. The estimated cost of the new gym is $836,785 and the ribbon-cutting ceremony is planned for March 2012.
