BOARD of Education Chairman Herman T. Guerrero says releasing the evaluation of Education Commissioner Rita H. Inos’s performance will violate her right to privacy.
“Overall, I can say (the evaluation) is very good. Perhaps about above average,” Guerrero told the Variety.
Guerrero said it was agreed during BOE’s executive session that the result of their evaluation would not be made public without Inos’s permission.
Inos is the only one with a copy of the evaluation report.
Guerrero said the board could not disclose the basis used in the evaluation.
Inos’s term will expire on May 31. Despite criticism from teachers and officials regarding Inos’s performance, BOE voted to renew her contract for another four years.
Asked about the concerns raised by teacher representative Franklin Keiper, Guerrero said Keiper was speaking as a “private citizen” and not as representative of the Association of Commonwealth Teachers.
He said Keiper’s allegations were “not sanctioned” by ACT and were never raised nor discussed by the Board of Education.
Guerrero said Keiper should be more specific, but added that BOE will issue a statement to answer the allegations.
In a letter to the Variety editor last week, Keiper alleged that BOE gave Inos a $7,000 bonus “just before she embarked on her political crusade last summer.”
Keiper added, “Remember, there was a salary freeze in effect for (the Public School System)–at least for the teachers. This didn’t stop BOE from giving Mrs. Inos a good sized chunk of spending money for the campaign trail.”
