Woman, 75, charged for allegedly trying to poison husband

A 75-year-old woman was arrested on charges that she had been trying to kill her 88-year-old husband by poisoning him with arsenic over the past three months on Tinian.

Ana Lizama was charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault, attempted aggravated assault, assault with a dangerous weapon, senior citizen physical abuse, assault and disturbing the peace.

The defendant was ordered not to leave the CNMI. A $10,000 cash bail was set for her temporary release.

The victim, Henrick Lizama, was hospitalized but was in good condition, Variety learned yesterday.

The couple had been together for 22 years. The defendant allegedly tried to kill her husband by placing poisonous chemicals in his food last February, March and April, sources said.

Assistant Attorney General Aaron J. Romano stated in the information filed yesterday that Ana Lizama “with the intent to commit the offense of murder in the first degree, committed an overt act, to wit: administering poison to the victim.”

Romano alleged that the defendant committed aggravated assault when she caused serious bodily injury on the victim when she administered poison to him.

Romano further alleged that the defendant committed the offense of senior citizen physical abuse when she “willfully endangered, hurt, ill-treated, mistreated, mishandled, victimized, inflicted physical pain, injury or mental distress on the victim when she administered poison to the victim causing him to be hospitalized.”
