The unity core group is also supported by six different ethnic associations, and the group of Parents with Special Child, and Parents with US. Citizen Children.
Rabby Syed, United Workers Movement, NMI president, said the unity core group has come up with a joint resolution to gather all CNMI guest workers for a very important assembly.
This assembly is designed to welcome the upcoming visit of U.S. Congressional Delegates headed by Guam Congresswoman Madeleine Bordallo.
Joining the United Workers Movement, NMI are the Dekada Movement, Coalition of United Workers, Pilipino Contract Workers Association (Pilcowa), and Human Dignity Movement. The Chinese, Korean, Bangladesh, Sri Lankan, Nepalese and Indian communities also joined the group.
Coalition of United Workers president Rene Reyes said the event will serve as a vehicle for guest workers to personally convey and appeal to the visiting delegates their concerns on improved immigration status.
“As leaders of this community we are committed to always guide for the welfare of our fellow guest workers,” said Pilcowa president Ronnie Doca.
Doca said the assembly is a “good timing” for their group to personally verbalize guest workers’ concern to the visiting delegates and “we are optimistic that they would come to us personally and talk to us during the assembly.”
The guest workers assembly is tentatively scheduled for August 9 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Syed said they are expecting the same crowd that participated the historic Unity March and the May Day rally.
The definite date, time and place for the assembly will be announced after the group finalized the program.
Itos Feliciano, Human Dignity Movement president, is calling all guest workers, business community and immediate relatives of U.S. Citizens, and the Freely Associated States FAS Citizens to join the assembly.
United Workers Movement adviser and Pilcowa chair Jun Concillado said that to have an improved immigration status is the guest workers’ “cause, struggle and utmost dream” that will eventually alleviate and change their lives.
“Americans are family loving citizens and we know that they don’t allow families to be fragmented just because of uncertainties due to impending federalization program that will soon be implemented in CNMI,” Concillado said.
He said that US government is considerate and will certainly recognize the effort and contributions of the guest workers to the commonwealth.
“Let us keep ourselves be always united to this cause. What Pedro gets, Peter gets, what Juan gets, john gets, so let us continue binding ourselves together in one unified voice,” he said.
