Guest workers ready for three-day assembly

Rabby Syed, United Workers Movement, NMI president, said their 72-hour peaceful assembly will start at 7 in the morning.

The local office of the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services is at the TSL Plaza building.

In an interview, Syed said they expect their supporters to join their group.

The organizers, in a statement, said  no one is certain of the outcome of their assembly but “remember that no one is certain also of what the guest workers’ fate will be once the federalization of CNMI immigrations gets implemented in November.”

The statement was signed by Boni Sagana Ernest Maicli, Ronnie Doca, Rene Reyes, Teddy Luna and Syed.

“It is better to take a stand now than just wait. We did it before and we can do it again — let us show our strength in unity,” they said.

The group said it is not making promises that the request of the guest workers will be granted but, it added, if the guest workers will stand united and speak as one, “our voice would be loud enough, and if our voice is loud enough, then hopefully, the Secretary of the Interior and Congress will take notice and grant us our request.”
