Halaby stood out among the candidates during last Saturday’s awarding ceremony at the office of Glimpses of Saipan Inc., the company that runs the magazine, in Gualo Rai.
A Northern Marianas College freshman, Halaby bested five other contestants — Cloven Rose Luna who placed second; Yvette Marie DLG. Bennett, third; Leia St. Clair, fourth; May M. Manuel, fifth; and Alma S. Manlulu, sixth.
Luna will be Beach Road’s February cover model.
Each candidate submitted their portfolios to the judges: Glimpses executive vice president Stella T. Fong; Beach Road photographer Hideo Honda; multi-awarded hair and make-up stylist Renren Santos; and Division of Environmental Quality spokeswoman, Reina Camacho.
Halaby and Luna tied in style both garnering 4.67 points.
In this category, a maximum of five points were given to the one who was fashionable, trend-conscious and beautiful even without too much make up.
Halaby earned the winning point in sex appeal and two points in photo appearance.
She is very active in sports — track, basketball and soccer.
Halaby, who plans to study medicine or dentistry in Hawaii, finds the model cover search a good experience as it gave her the opportunity to learn new things and meet new people.
She encourages other girls her age “to believe in yourself.”
