Calvary Christian Academy topped the competition held on Saturday, Feb. 26.
Its team was composed of Woo Jin Bark, Devonne Dotts, Joshua Mostales, Savannah Lyn Delos Santos and Jun Seo Allen Park. Asia Michaleun was their coach.
The Hopwood coaches were Sharleen Crisostimo and the members were Carmelita Ada, Ethan Manalili, Joann Bandales, Mursher Alam and Daril Hermogenes. They were recognized during their school’s flag ceremony on Friday.
Last year’s champion, Marianas Baptist Academy, placed third in this year’s Academic Challenge Bowl which tests the students’ academic ability and knowledge of different subjects.
“I feel amazed to be able to reach that high in this competition,” said eighth grade Daril Hermogenes. “Of course we’re all smart at Hopwood. I wish we won first, but being second is still a prestigious honor.”
Murcher Alam, a seventh grader, said: “I was proud because it was the first time Hopwood won second place in the challenge bowl. I thought the event was enjoyable and cool.”
Ethan Manalili, eighth grader, said he “felt pretty good — it was my first time and was real nervous, but I feel very accomplished to have been a part of the event.”
The other schools that participated were Chacha Oceanview Junior High School, Saipan International School, Grace Christian Academy, Tinian Junior High School and Rota’s Dr. Rita Hocog Inos Jr. High.
