Rota is negotiating the terms of the draft contract with Guam-based GCE Corp. which wants to provide the island with wind energy at 19 cents per kilowatt hour.
Hocog, Ind.-Rota, said they plan “to limit [GCE’s power] production to 3.5 megawatts,” to allow other independent power producer to offer their own proposals for alternative energy.
He said GCE’s 3.5-megawatt power output will be required throughout the 20-year contract period.
Proposals for solar energy or other alternative energy source will also be reviewed by Rota’s officials, Hocog said.
GCE will pay for the installation of 12 windmill units on Rota.
“Not a single penny will be spent by the Commonwealth Utilities Corp. and Rota for the construction of the windmills,” Hocog said.
