Homeland Security allocates funds for Pacific islands

The department said funding for the three areas is part of fiscal year 2009 total grant of $48 million for states and territories.

The grant, according to the federal government, is to prevent terrorism, reduce fraud, and improve the reliability and accuracy of personal identification documents that the states and territories issue.

American Samoa, Guam and the CNMI is each allocated $600,000 from this grant program.
