Aging Center Director Howard I. Macaranas said after Christmas, his office received yet another invitation to a luncheon that will honor and pay respect to the islands’ senior citizens.
On Tuesday, he said, the Hotel Association of the Northern Mariana Islands will host a luncheon for the elderly at the Fiesta Resort & Spa at 11:30 a.m.
Before Thanksgiving and Christmas, eight non-government organizations, private and public schools treated the manamko’ to luncheons and various entertainment numbers.
“The holiday treats that we received from various organizations were overwhelming,” Macaranas said. “Every year we have more donors.”
According to Macaranas, the bad economic situation has not deterred the members of the community from sharing their blessings with the elderly.
Among the groups that hosted luncheons and gave Christmas gifts to the manamko’ were Fiesta Resort & Spa, the Rotary Club of Saipan, the Laolao Bay Resort, the Taga Riders, the Cheachulu Group, the Korean Women’s Association, the Korean Association of Saipan, Tasi Tours, and PDM Promoters Inc.
Those sand Christmas carols or performed musicals for the manamko’ were the NMC Carolinian Cultural Club, Saipan Community School, Kagman JROTC, SDA School, Whispering Palms School and the Garapan Elementary School.
Macaranas also lauded Fred Taitague, Ambyth Shipping Micronesia agency services manager, for providing clothes and curtains to the manamko’.
He said the center also sent two boxes of clothes to the senior citizens on Rota and Tinian.
