The tobacco-free educational exhibit was a big hit with gamers and their families, who visited the booth all day long from its opening around 11 a.m., to the raffling of the last prize at 5 p.m. The trivia wheel was an especially popular feature, and included categories such Effects of Tobacco, Secondhand Smoke, Contents of a Cigarette, Clean Indoor Air Act, Financial Cost of Tobacco, Cancer 101, Reduce Your Risk, and Say Yes to a Tobacco-Free Life. Visitors to the booth were given information, incentive prizes, and raffle tickets for a chance to win more prizes each time they spun the trivia wheel and answered questions from the presenters. More than 140 visits to the booth were counted, including repeat visits, which were strongly encouraged.
Commonwealth Cancer Association board president Alex Sablan expressed his gratitude to the Department of Public Health, Comprehensive Cancer Control Program for providing the booth, banner, brochures, and incentive items; CCA volunteers Ann Lores, Lolly Villagomez, and Alexis Hofschneider for their hard work and enthusiasm in planning and implementing the exhibit; NMC-CREES for lending the trivia wheel and delivering it to the site; and Dr. Jack Hardy for lending his projector screen.
Sablan also thanked the CCA’s exhibit sponsors who provided the raffle prizes that were given out periodically throughout the day: Mariana Resort & Spa, IT&E, Ben & Ki Watersports, the Pacific Islands Club, Bestseller Bookstore and Megabyte.
The Commonwealth Cancer Association and its partners plan to promote the “I Love My Tobacco-Free CNMI” campaign and exhibit at additional events in the near future.
