Some Rota casino commissioners accused of conflict of interest

Variety learned that two commissioners and one former commissioner have been dealing with the casino operator for their personal gain.

“What they are doing is a conflict of interest,” a Rota resident said.

The resident alleged that one commissioner is renovating his apartment after getting a contract to house some of the employees of the casino.

The other commissioner was able to get a contract to repair and renovate the place where the casino is to be established.

A former commissioner got a contract to house all the 30 dealers of the casino at his hotel.

The contract was reportedly finalized before he resigned from the commission.

But the commission denied these allegations.

“Rumors and untrue statements are trying to discredit what is good for Rota, the people of Rota and the commonwealth,” said Alfredo O. Antolin Jr., the commission’s executive director.

He said it is sad that while Rota is trying build its casino industry there are some people in the community who are into “self-destruction.”

Instead of spreading rumors, Antolin said, the people should support the casino industry which will  “benefit everyone.”

“We ask the community to support this endeavor,” he added.
