This was the contention of Fred Deleon Guerrero, Precinct 5 House candidate, after joining the alliance of six other independent candidates supporing the gubernatorial candidacy of former Sen. Juan T. Guerrero and his running mate, House Floor Leader Joseph N. Camacho.
Deleon Guerrero, who narrowly lost his House bid two years ago, said their alliance comprises a police officer, a retired school teacher, a government worker, a mother and people from all walks of life.
“Nobody in our group is a professional politician,” he said.
He believes they have better changes against veteran politicians.
“We pooled our resources and we think together for the betterment of the community,” he said.
Another independent House candidate, Ray Aldan of Precinct 2, said as a retired school teacher he can help address the problem of school dropouts, suspensions and juvenile delinquency.
Voters should look at the candidates and their backgrounds and not their political parties, he added.
Jeorge N. Camacho, an independent House candidate for Precinct 4, said aside from his concerns regarding the environment, he will also push programs for the youth.
He promised to complete the programs of Precinct 4’s incumbent House members — Floor Leader Camacho and Rep. Justo S. Quitugua, a Democrat running for senator.
Jeorge N. Camacho said he has a clean track record.
For his part, Miguel Atalig Camacho, an Independent candidate for Precinct 3, said he wants to help the people and the community.
He said he aligned with the Guerrero-Camacho tandem because “I think they are the best choice.”
As a police officer for 12 years now, Camacho said he knows “I can help restore the trust of the people.”
The other independent House candidates are Vicky T. Guerrero, Henry Torres and Rita Dela Cruz.
Vicky Guerrero, who is running in Precinct 1, said parties have prevented elected officials from pursuing workable and realistic legislation.
She vowed to offer good governance by serving the people without any political affiliation.
Precinct 2’s Henry Torres said he affiliated with the Guerrero-Camacho because “they have the best platform that could stabilize the economy of the islands.”
