Speaker Eli D. Cabrera’s Saipan Local Bill 17-50 is now Saipan Local Law 17-12 while Rep. Teresita A. Santos’ House Bill 17-61 is now Public Law 17-48.
Cabrera’s measure rezones the following areas: Chalan Kanoa from village residential to mixed commercial; and Kagman from rural to mixed commercial.
The new law also grants the zoning administrator more flexibility in granting zoning permits.
Public Law 17-48, for its part, eliminates the fees for using or maintaining small parcels of public lands adjacent to private properties.
Since landowners are protecting and preserving these small public lands they should not be charged rent for maintaining them, Santos said.
