Insurance firm’s lawyer files accounting of expenses

Richard W. Pierce, who represents Firstnet Insurance Co., told the court he rendered 6.799 hours at $210 per hour rate for a total amount of $1,427.79.

Chief Judge Ramona V. Manglona earlier ordered Zheng Rui Brother Corp. to pay Firstnet’s reasonable expenses and attorney’s fees.

The federal court granted Firstnet’s motion to compel discovery against Zheng Rui Brother Corp. which operated BL Clothing Store in Garapan that was gutted by fire in Oct. 2010.

Manglona directed Zheng Rui to produce the retainer agreement with its attorney, saying it is “relevant to deciding such a claim and therefore discoverable.”

Attorney Ramon K. Quichocho represents Zheng Rui Brother Corp.

Zheng Rui earlier argued that the retainer agreement was protected by the attorney-client privilege.

FirstNet Insurance is asking the court to determine its rights and obligations under the policy, valued at $405,346.

Zheng Rui valued its loss at $404,718.53, and is claiming fire insurance.

Zheng Rui, however, failed to present documentation supporting its valuation, according to court records.
