Ocean Bee LLC Manager He Guo Qiang and two of his staffers perform a Feng Shui ritual to mark the beginning of the Imperial Pacific International’s tower crane deconstruction project on Friday.
AFTER performing a feng shui ritual on Friday, Ocean Bee LLC, which was contracted by Imperial Pacific International, started the process of dismantling the tower cranes at the unfinished hotel-casino building in Garapan.
The job should be completed by Dec. 31, 2023, the Department of Public Works said.
Asked about the ritual they performed at the work site, Ocean Bee manager He Guo Qiang said they offered food, lit incense sticks, chanted a prayer, lighted firecrackers and burned paper signifying money to “chase away bad spirits.”
About a dozen workers, along with two Occupational Safety and Health Administration-certified inspectors, witnessed the ritual. The workers then began installing safety devices at the bottom of tower crane No. 5.
Lito Parulan, the spokesman for Ocean Bee LLC, told the Commonwealth Casino Commission on Thursday that they would take down tower crane No. 5 first because it posed more danger to the public [than the other cranes]. Tower cranes 1 and 6 are positioned farther away from surrounding properties.
On Thursday, Department of Public Works Secretary Ray N. Yumul notified He Guo Qiang that Dec. 1, 2023 was the official notice-to-proceed date for the deconstruction project. The contract performance time is 30 days, Yumul added.
