Miyazawa Hideo, festival promoter, said Suzuki will have a special mini-concert during the celebration on Oct. 24 from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Garapan Central Park.
“This is one of the features of this year’s celebration that we didn’t have it last year,” he told Variety. “She will perform at least six songs.”
The annual event, he said, promotes Japanese culture while enhancing the relationship between Japan and the Northern Marianas.
“I am inviting the community to join with us in the celebration,” Miyazawa said.
He said the Yosakoi Dancers, a group from Hokaido, Japan, will also perform during the celebration.
There will be a game stand for shooting and ring-toss, a bazaar, and a food stand that offers a variety of Japanese dishes such as sushi, tempura, soba, barbeque chicken and okonomiyaki.
The organizers will also sponsor a Fukubiki, or a Japanese raffle game, with a hotel room certificate as the grand prize.
This year’s event coordinator is Aya Matsimoto.
Miyazawa said they are expecting Gov. Benigno R. Fitial, Lt. Gov. Eloy S. Inos and CNMI legislators to attend the event.
The festival is supported by Marianas Visitors Authority, Mariana Country Club, Moby Dick Restaurant, World Resort, Blue Horizon, Deepstar Submarine, JSTA, PDI, Tony Roma’s, Furusato, Saipan Grand Hotel, Hafa Dai Hotel, Fiesta Resort, Tori Hide, Aqua Resort Club, Dolce Hair Mode Salon, Tropical Laundry and Linen Supply and Asahi.
