Japanese tourist robbed while relaxing on the beach

Department of Public Safety Spokeswoman Lei Ogumoro said the incident occurred last week at around 12:05 a.m.

“According to preliminary investigation, three female Japanese tourists were laying on the beach when an individual grabbed the victim’s purse and ran south,” she said.

“There were no reports of any injuries. The suspect was a male and was described as wearing a dark shirt and a pair of dark short pants. This case is under investigation,” she added.

On Tuesday night, a 27-year-old guest worker was robbed while walking east along the secondary roadway near the Winners Corp. garment factory in Afetnas.

The victim told the police a male suspect came from behind her and grabbed her plastic bag which contained her clothes, a cell phone and her wallet.

This case too is still under investigation.

Ogumoro is urging anyone with information regarding these and other crimes to call the Crime Stoppers Hotline at 234-7272.

“All calls are kept anonymous — no caller ID is used and a reward of up to $1,000 is given for any information leading to an arrest,” she said.
