Javier’s Rota Wedding Cake Mt. wins MVA photo contest

(MVA) — Rota’s iconic Wedding Cake Mt. captured by the lens of Elmer Javier has won 1st place in the Marianas Visitors Authority’s “Capture the Beauty of the Marianas” photo contest.

The contest —  held on Facebook and Instagram from May 1 to 27, 2024 — was open to entries worldwide, inviting participants to post their favorite photo of Saipan, Rota, or Tinian in the Marianas with the hashtags #MyMarianas, #TheMarianas, #CapturetheBeautyofTheMarianas2024, and #VistTheMarianas.

Winning 2nd place was an aerial view of Micro Beach in Saipan, submitted by Justin Poon.  In 3rd place was a sun-splashed photo of the House of Taga in Tinian, submitted by Anan Khan.

“The beauty of the Marianas as seen through the lens of those who live or visit here is one of the best ways of sharing our beautiful islands with the world and enticing more visitors to explore Saipan, Tinian, and Rota for themselves,” said MVA Community Projects Manager Martin Duenas.  “Congratulations to all the winners, and we encourage everyone to continue using these hashtags to promote the Marianas every month of the year.”

Javier, Poon, and Khan were awarded $300, $200, and $100 cash prizes. Photos submitted featured the Marianas’ attractions, including historical or cultural sites, beaches, or others. The contest was held as part of May Marianas Tourism Month.
