(JKPL) — Joeten-Kiyu Public Library is proud to announce that Library Director Erlinda C. Naputi delivered the keynote address at the San Jose State University School of Information’s Celebration of Asian American, Native Hawaiian & Pacific Islander Heritage Month 2024 Symposium on the theme “The Role of Libraries, Museums, and Archives in Engaging with Local Communities.” The event took place virtually on Saturday, May 25, 2024 at 3 a.m. CHst.
Naputi, who also serves as president of the Pacific Islands Association of Libraries, Archives, and Museums, has been a leader in the library field with over 32 years professional library experience, with a strong commitment to community engagement and outreach.
JKPL’s innovative approaches to indigenizing library services and programs has been recognized regionally and nationally, and Team JKPL was thrilled to share their expertise with the symposium attendees.
The theme of this year’s symposium highlights the important role that libraries, museums, and archives play in connecting with and serving local communities.
Naputi discussed the ways in which Joeten-Kiyu Public Library effectively engages with diverse populations, fosters inclusivity, and preserves cultural heritage.
The Asian American, Native Hawaiian & Pacific Islander Heritage Month 2024 Symposium aimed to celebrate and showcase the contributions of Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander communities to the library and information profession. The event featured presentations, panelist discussions, School AANHPI Student Club Student Spotlight and networking opportunities for attendees to connect and learn from each other.
