Join the next round of regenerative agriculture workshops

THE next round of regenerative agriculture workshops begins in April, according to Jesse Deleon Guerrero, an extension agent of Northern Marianas College-Cooperative Research, Extension and Education Services.

To register, go to bit.ly/REGENAGAPR24/. There is no cost to attend, but seats are limited.

Deleon Guerrero said the workshops focus on building “very resilient” agriculture systems “using all natural principles” that do not rely on synthetic fertilizer, herbicides or pesticides.

The workshops will be led by Craig Elevitch, co-author of “Breadfruit Agroforestry Guide.”

“The workshops [provide the public with an] experiential learning opportunity, to be hands on, and to ask questions to one of the world experts in agroforestry and regenerative agriculture,” Deleon Guerrero said.

On Tinian, the workshop is set for April 2 at NMC Tinian, Room D, from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and April 3, at the CREES San Jose Research Station. The hands-on portion of training begins at 6:30 a.m.

Rota will host the workshop on April 5 at the Puesto Grill Annex from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The hands-on portion will be held in Sinapalo from 6:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Organizers will provide directions to the practical training portion on day one.

Workshops on Saipan begin on April 8 at LaoLao Bay Golf and Resort from 8 a.m. to 12 noon. However, that session is limited to members of the Kagman Agricultural Farms and Producers Association who have registered.

From 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. also at LaoLao Bay Golf and Resort, NMC-CREES will host a training session especially for teachers in the Public School System.

But Deleon Guerrero said private school teachers can register to attend the session as well.

The next Saipan workshop is set for April 12 and is open to the public. It will be held from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the NMC As Terlaje campus, in room K-1. The hands-on portion of the training is scheduled for April 13 from 6:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. in As Teo, with directions to be given on day one of training.
