JROTC camp at Obyan Beach kicks off today

Information officer Diana Choi told the Variety yesterday that the cadets were from Saipan Southern High School, Marianas High School, Rota High School, Tinian High School and Kagman High School.

“Each school has about 40 cadets,” Choi said.

They had no scheduled activities yesterday except to set up  camp and prepare for the hectic activities that will start today.

Today’s activities include  physical training and training exercises with the rope bridge, knot tying, leadership reaction course, first aid, and land navigation.

Tomorrow, March 26, the cadets will have a road march to a rappelling site, as well as participate in snake presentation, sanctuary presentation and nature walk.

Choi said the cadets will  participate in a drill competition and academic challenge tomorrow afternoon.

On Saturday, the cadets will undergo an obstacle course, and join sports activities such as volleyball, a Frisbee challenge, and a tug of war competition.

The five-day camping event provides the cadets in the high school JROTC program a chance to put the theories they have learned into practice.

Choi said the cadets are expected to learn teamwork and leadership skills and motivate them to become better citizens.

The camp ends at 7:30 on Sunday morning.
