SUPERIOR Court Judge Joseph N. Camacho found probable cause to charge stabbing defendant Darvin K. Muna.
At a preliminary hearing on Friday, Muna, 22, appeared in the custody of the Department of Corrections. He was represented by Chief Public Defender Douglas Hartig, while Chief Prosecutor Chester Hinds appeared for the government.
The court heard testimony from Detective Felixberto Sablan, the government witness.
Based on the matters discussed at the hearing, Judge Camacho found probable cause to believe that “the crimes of Assault With a Dangerous Weapon, in violation of 6 CMC § 1204(a) as charged in Count I of the Information; Aggravated Assault and Battery, in violation of 6 CMC § 1203(a) as charged in Count II of the Information and Disturbing the Peace, in violation of 6 CMC § 3101(a) as charged in Count III of the Information were committed and the person who may have committed said offenses is Darvin K. Muna.”
The defendant is therefore held to answer the charges, the judge said.
Muna was ordered to return to court for an arraignment before Presiding Judge Roberto C. Naraja on Aug. 18 at 9 a.m.
The Department of Public Safety said Muna was arrested after he confessed to stabbing another man.
DPS received a call reporting a stabbing incident on Commonwealth Drive in Chinatown on May 14, 2025, at 6:30 p.m. “Responding officers who arrived at the scene identified a 56-year-old male with a stab wound on the left side of his chest,” DPS said.
The Department of Fire and Emergency Medical Services transported the victim to the Commonwealth Healthcare Corporation, where he received treatment.
According to DPS, police learned that while the victim and his employees were gathered at a shop, the suspect drove recklessly past them. He later returned to the location and aggressively confronted the group, asking if they “had a problem.” When the victim approached the suspect and spoke to him through the driver’s side window, the suspect stabbed him in the chest and immediately fled the scene.
While officers attended to the victim, the suspect called the emergency line and confessed to stabbing the victim. Officers later made contact with the suspect, identified as Darvin Muna. He was subsequently arrested for assault with a dangerous weapon.
