Latest reports released by Commonwealth Auto Dealers Association showed that the three car dealers — Joeten Motors, Microl Corp. and Triple “J” Motors — sold a total of 42 brand new cars last month compared to 34 during the same month last year.
Last month’s sales bring to 196 the total brand new cars sold for the first half of 2009.
But the figure also represents a 43.19 percent decrease from the 345 brand new cars sold for the first six months of 2008.
Microl Corp. led in sales for the previous months but in June, Triple “J” Motors was number one with 18 brand new cars sold, claiming a 42.86 percent of the market share.
Microl Corp. came in second with 15 cars sold, or a 35.71 percent of the market share, while Joeten Motors sold nine brand new units.
In an e-mail, Triple “J” Motors general manager Randy Steele attributed the increase in their sales to the successful promotion of the Mitsubishi Outlander sport-utility vehicle.
Steele said Triple “J” sold 10 units in just one week.
Triple “J” Motors’ ongoing “Sizzling Summer Gas & Grocery Extravaganza” generated an additional eight units sold, he added.
The promo will continue through July.
Mitsubishi toppled Toyota as the leading choice by brand last month, selling 18 units compared to 14 Toyota cars.
Mazda came third with five units sold; Nissan had four; Kia, three; Suzuki, two; and one each for Ford, Honda, Chevrolet and Hyundai.
Last month’s sales included 20 sedans, three trucks, two vans and 17 SUVs.
From January to June, the three dealers sold 110 sedans, 23 trucks, 10 vans and 53 SUVs.
Triple “J” Motors distributes Hyundai, Mitsubishi, Isuzu, Suzuki and Mazda.
Microl Corp. sells Toyota and Chevrolet while Joeten Motors is the island’s distributor of Nissan, Ford, Honda and Kia.
