New Tinian casino investor touts multi-million-dollar project

Today, NGP and commonwealth officials will hold a groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of the 1,000-room hotel and 400 villas on 300 hectares of  Tinian public land.

NGP led by its president Hyun Ming In and vice president Woo Kwi Dong met Gov. Benigno R. Fitial, Lt. Gov. Eloy S. Inos, cabinet members and lawmakers during a presentation yesterday in the governor’s conference room.

NGP said its hotel will have Chinese, Korean, Japanese, Chinese and Western features.

The company noted Tinian’s proximity to Asian countries and cities like Japan, the Philippines, Hong Kong, Macau, Beijing and Tokyo.

“The good geographical location is very advantageous,” NGP said.

Press Secretary Charles P. Reyes Jr. said the governor was very impressed with the presentation.

Covenant Sen. Joseph M. Mendiola of Tinian said the investment will benefit the entire CNMI.

“We are every excited with this kind of development on Tinian and we are looking forward for the actual construction,” he added.

The senator doesn’t see any problems with NGP’s ability to comply with the requirements.

Mendiola said the government is willing to assist and support new investors.

NGP, he added, might need to import manpower because the CNMI has not enough construction workers.

“We have enough room on Tinian to accommodate the needed workers,” he said.

During the presentation, NGP officials discussed their master plan, which detailed  architectural landmarks, the advanced technologies the hotel will use and its marketing concept.

NGP said after a long period of brainstorming they came up with “good ideas” on how to proceed with their project.
