Chief Public Defender Adam Hardwicke, in his opening statement, said the victim reported the incident to cover her relationship with her 52-year-old uncle.
Hardwicke said the victim had a miscarriage, and subsequent inquiries would lead to the discovery of the relationship.
“She could not bear the shame,” Hardwicke told the jurors.
Assistant Attorney General Brian D. Gallagher, who is prosecuting the case, called the first government witness, Detective Peter Aldan.
The detective said he investigated a domestic violence incident in which Blodak’s wife, Valeria Brel, assaulted the victim after the wife caught her husband and the victim in a sexual act.
In his follow up interview with Blodak, Aldan said the accused told him, “It’s all his fault.”
When asked to elaborate, Aldan told the court that Blodak admitted having sex with the victim.
When interviewed by Aldan, the victim told police she was threatened by her uncle if she refused to have sex with him.
Blodak was charged with two counts of sexual assault in the first degree, and was allowed to post $200 of his $25,000 cash bail.
The remaining $24,800 was issued as an unsecured or appearance bond by Blodak who was released to his niece in As Lito as his third party custodian.
Blodak was arrested last April.
The victim is expected to testify today.
