DOC confiscated all personal computers, laptops, and accessories from the inmates and sent them to their families.
DOC is supposed to allow inmates to have access to laptops and personal computers for educational purposes only.
There was public outcry after the video taken in 2009 was leaked to the media.
Gov. Felix Camacho fired DOC Director J.B. Palacios last week.
Warden Francisco B. Crisostomo and Capt. Joseph Lujan, the operations commander of the adult correction facility, were placed on administrative leave.
According to GPD spokesman A.J. Balajadia, “A request from the governor’s office was made to the Guam Police Department to assist the Department of Corrections in reviewing some of their administrative policies.”
He added, “The acting chief of police, Maj. Rick Leon Guerrero, will collaterally assign a couple of internal affairs officers to the Department of Corrections internal affairs office to help assist them in their investigation regarding the DOC BBQ video.”
No further details were given about the investigation.
The governor expects to see a DOC report by mid-December.
Convicted murderer Billy Cao Cruz reportedly made the video. He has been placed in a special housing unit pending further investigation.
The warden was shown in the video mingling with the inmates who were barbecuing chicken in honor of their fellow prisoner’s birthday.
In an earlier interview, the warden said the barbecue, which he described as “potluck,” was a reward for the hard work of the inmates.
“Was there a crime committed? No,” said Crisostomo. “Was there any escape, injury, drunk, fire, or assault? No.”
He pointed out that the chicken and vegetables used for the barbecue came from the prison farm. Their families also brought some food, he added.
