The documents, obtained under an Open Government Act request by the committee, are all available for public inspection at the campaign website, www.kililiforcongress.com, and, upon request, at the campaign headquarters in the Morgen building on Beach Road.
Rather than selectively release the documents the committee has decided that the public deserves unrestricted access to everything that the Attorney General’s Office provided.
Any member of the public should have the opportunity to inspect the e-mails and other documents in which the attorney general and members of the AGO discuss and plan the event.
The committee will let the records speak for themselves.
The Open Government Act allows any member of the public to have access to government documents.
The Kilili campaign asked for all e-mails sent using government computers or sent using private computers during normal government business hours; phone messages, phone logs, memos or receipts of phone calls; all receipts, vouchers, purchase orders, requests for reimbursement and other evidence of money spent; as well as the list of AG office staff who attended or were involved in planning the political event.
In addition, the Open Government Act request asked for any employee policies and guidelines that limit and restrict political campaign activity in the office, the text of speeches or statements made, photographs taken, and receipts and vouchers of money spent on the event.
