Kilili, NMI Democrats thank voters

Kilili, who ran unopposed to win a seventh term, said: “Andrea and I, our families and the Kilili for Congress Committee give our heartfelt thanks to all the voters for giving me their permission to represent them and the Northern Marianas in Congress for another two years.”

He added, “As always, you have my commitment to work hard for you.”

Although there are still some absentee votes to be tabulated on Nov. 17, Kilili also extends his congratulations to all the candidates who have won the trust of the community to serve in the Legislature, the Board of Education, the municipal councils, and the judiciary.

“To the candidates who were not successful in this election, I extend my congratulations for having run good campaigns,” said Kilili, an independent who caucuses with U.S. Democrats.

“Now, we must put aside partisanship. Our community and our nation face unprecedented health and economic challenges from the pandemic. Only by working together can we be successful,” he added.

NMI Democratic Party Chairwoman Nola Hix, on behalf of the party and its candidates, also thanked the voters for their support.

“We would like to thank and congratulate the people of the CNMI for their votes of confidence,” she said.

The winning NMI Democrats, she said, “are excited to get to work as we await the results of the remaining absentee ballots.”

She added, “We want to thank the Commonwealth Election Commission, the Office of the Public Auditor, the Department of Public Safety, our election workers, volunteers, and supporters for their hard work and professionalism in ensuring the utmost integrity of the 2020 midterm elections.”

“We are the People’s Party,” she said, “and the people have spoken. The people’s desire for change was expressed at their respective ballot boxes where our candidates ran a historic race and so far, about half of our slate [has] achieved success. We are proud of their extraordinary courage and dedication to rise up to the challenge in becoming an alternative solution to the many challenges facing our people today.”

She said the teamwork displayed by the party throughout the campaign “will continue on through all of our candidates and their determination to offer a better quality of life for all of us.”

“I’m confident that our successful candidates will deliver change to their constituents and I can assure you that myself, and the team will hold them to it. This is and will be a win for the people,” she added.
