This was announced by Speaker George Wells on Friday in Parliament.
Wells said Kilman was voted in by a majority of opposition MPs.
However, Vanuatu Republican Party leader Maxime Carlot Korman quickly reacted to the announcement, saying his MPs had walked out of the meeting because they preferred to wait for the outcome of the court case involving the two Port Vila MPs before a decision is taken.
He said the announcement was also contrary to an earlier decision of the speaker that he as opposition leader must accept the outcome of any such opposition meeting.
He vowed to seek legal advice over his ousting.
