Labor to crack down on spurious job vacancy ads

Division Director Alfred Pangelinan said before an  employer can post his JVAs on the department’s Web site, Labor will certify it first.

He said employers should be accountable for their JVAs.

According to Pangelinan, his division will review within five days the JVAs posted by  employers for 14 consecutive days.

Before Labor can certify the JVA, some of the employer’s business records will be reviewed — the gross receipts tax report, business registration among other documents.

“There will be no publication of JVAs if there’s no control mechanism in place,” Pangelinan said.

If the Department of Labor finds something questionable in an employer’s JVA, it can verify on the Web site whether it has been certified or not, he said.

“The review process is much easier and faster,” he added.

Pangelinan said jobseekers should check their e-mail accounts regularly because they can be disqualified if they fail to reply promptly to the advisories of employers.

Since the www.marianas labor.net went online, the Division of Employment and Training Services has improved the Web site to allow employers to reply to the applicants immediately, he said.

“An automated e-mail will be sent to the employer seeking workers and the employer will see if there are applicants,” Pangelinan added.

Applicants can also visit the Labor office to check their e-mail.

The Division of Employment and Training Services has two computers that job seekers can use.

According to Pangelinan, they are planning to install more computers in strategic areas of the island.
