Opposition: NZ ready for election now

Unveiling another National billboard, Key said the public is “over it” and wants an election now.

“It’s absolutely time for the election. New Zealanders are over all these charades” he said.

There is a notable absence of Labor hustings —pointing to an election later, rather than sooner.

Stuff NZ reports that Nov. 8 remains the most widely tipped date, though an Oct. 18 election cannot be ruled out.

Parliament is in urgency this week and is likely to return to urgency next week — but it remains unclear whether it will return after a one-week recess. It seems increasingly likely, however, that it will return for a final week, with a large number of MPs due to give their valedictories.

Clark could either announce the election date next week or on Sept. 20, when Parliament resumes.
