This number only represents the requests submitted to Labor since it started issuing the two-year umbrella permit to overstayers until Nov. 13.
Meanwhile, the federal labor ombudsman’s office and guest worker advocates continue to receive requests for waiver from overstayers.
Ronnie Doca, Pilipino Contract Workers Association Inc. chairman, said they have already helped process the documents of more than 500 overstayers to get an umbrella permit.
He said they will continue to post their booth at the entrance of the Department of Labor office until Nov. 28, when federal immigration law is applied to the islands.
The ombudsman’s office and guest worker advocates are helping overstayers compose letters explaining why they should be given a waiver.
