It was the institution’s second annual recognition ceremony, and over 60 students were awarded medals, ribbons and certificates for academic excellence.
This school year’s graduates totaled seven students from K-5, nine from sixth grade, and four eighth graders promoted to high school.
The outstanding graduates were Jenny Lyn Sanchez for middle school, Alex Kim and Michael Park for sixth graders, and Timothy James Castillon for the K-5 class.
Sanchez, 14, is the daughter of Yolanda Bustillos and Jaime Sanchez.
“The feeling is overwhelming and really outstanding,” the student said. “I didn’t expect this honor as exciting as it is.”
She said that she will continue to persevere in her studies in high school.
In her message, Jenny Lyn Sanchez admitted that she did not have an easy start at LISS.
“When I first came here, I wanted to go back to my former school,” she said. “I thought that I wouldn’t enjoy myself at LISS throughout the entire school year without being with my old friends…but, with the help of my new teachers and schoolmates, my perspective about attending this school totally changed.”
She said since she came to LISS, she has become more knowledgeable.
“Being in a classroom with students who have sharp, intelligent minds help encourage me to strive to achieve my goals for this year…and I am thankful to them,” she said.
Attending LISS was a “new and joyous experience,” she added.
She offered her honors to her parents for “encouraging me, helping me through this journey, and for their love and support.”
She added, “I’ve learned that we don’t always get results that satisfy ourselves. Some may be overwhelming while others turn out to be what we least expect. But everyday, we get smarter, grow wiser and gain knowledge about ourselves and the world around us today.”
Other students who graduated with honors included eighth grade’s Si Woo Kim, second honor, and Mildred Felis Elameto, third honor; sixth grade’s Ashley Welch, third honor; and K-5’s Lance David Bartolome and E’Anna Won, second and third honors.
The ceremony was keynoted by Marianas Visitors Authority Managing Director Perry John P. Tenorio, who commended LISS for its great contributions to the local tourism and educational industries.
