Rep. Stanley T. Torres, Ind.-Saipan, said the families of the four contacted his office for help.
He has since brought the issue to the attention of the Department of Commerce and the Retirement Fund.
Torres identified the life insurer as Moylan’s Insurance.
“The issue of several families being denied the life insurance payments from the passing of their deceased loved ones is becoming a serious problem of delay and frustration,” said Torres in a statement. “I have contacted the Retirement Fund last year and have followed up with two letters to the secretary of commerce and the Attorney General’s Office on March 1 and 17 this year but still there was no word from them.”
On March 17, Torres made a letter on behalf of the four families to Commerce Secretary Michael Ada.
“This is an urgent matter that warrants your immediate attention and action to resolve this issue. Not only are the families grieving for their loved ones, they are also left with debts associated with the untimely passing of their loved ones,” he wrote to Ada.
Moylan’s, the Retirement Fund and Commerce could not be immediately reached for comments.
Torres said he will bring the issue to Gov. Benigno R. Fitial.
