Lawmaker recognizes Coleman’s exemplary contributions to NMI

“It would be extremely difficult to find a person with similar compassion and devotion to her country and public service  like that of Ms. Ruth A. Coleman,” Rep. Teresita A. Santos said.

Santos, Ind.-Rota, pre-filed House Resolution17-63, which recognizes and commends Coleman for her exemplary service and numerous contributions to the CNMI.

Santos described Coleman as a woman who has dedicated her life to her country and to the residents of the commonwealth.

“Coleman’s stellar service record reinforces her strong work ethic and commitment to excellence,” the resolution stated.

Coleman, who was named grand marshal on Saipan during the 2011 Liberation Day celebration, is a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and serves as VFW Post 3457 veterans service officer.

Coleman left her post as executive officer for the CNMI Military-Veterans Affairs Office after 11 years of service on May 25, 2011.

Coleman is now working for the Veterans Health Administration which is part of the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.

Coleman will continue to assist CNMI veterans.

She began her career in the U.S. Air Force by becoming an apprentice/specialist non-destructive inspection/oil analysis laboratory.

In 1983, Coleman attended a managing resources and safety technical training for non-destructive testing in Chanute, Illinois. The following year Coleman was promoted to assistant chief of the non-destructive inspection/oil analysis laboratory.

After attending various training sessions, Coleman was promoted to military training manager/student training advisor and also became an instructor for the military training manager training and student leadership courses.

“Coleman understood the importance of education, hard work and determination, which contributed to her continued climb and success in the military,” the resolution stated.

At the end of 2006, Coleman became  executive officer for the CNMI Military/Veterans Affairs Office where she managed and supervised all programs relating to veteran benefits and health.

Coleman is a product of Mount Carmel High School and Marianas High School.

She received her associate degree in applied science in metals technology from the College of the Air Force, and received her diploma in computerized accounting from Valdosta Technical College in Georgia.

In 1999, Coleman graduated from the Corrections Academy in Forsyth, Georgia.
