Lawmaker says CUC addressing Telesource debt

Hofschneider, R-Tinian, told the Variety yesterday that the issue with CUC and Telesource “is currently being resolved,” saying that a continuing dialogue between the two parties is underway.

He added that he “bridged the gap” between the two companies so as to end the power service interruption in some households on Tinian.

“They’re discussing how to address the payment issue,” he added referring to CUC and Telesource.

In a previous interview, CUC Executive Director Antonio S. Muna said there was no issue with its financial obligation because they were already addressing CUC’s debt to Telesource  amounting to $813,463.

Muna said CUC paid its $347,699 fuel order for the Tinian power plant.

The next thing they will deal with is the production fee, and the operation and maintenance fees CUC owes  Telesource, he added.

According to Telesource, CUC owes the company $350,637 in production fee, and $282,826 in operation and maintenance fees.

CUC earlier said it paid Telesource $180,000.

“Despite some [negative] comments about the Telesource contract, Tinian [still] has the best power facility in the commonwealth, Hofschneider stated.

He added, “The power outage [on Tinian] is going to be resolved.”

He  toured the Tinian power plant last week, and noted that the facilities were “well kept, well maintained.”
