Leadership training for young Pacific islanders

The goal of the ELDP is to develop young, talented Pacific Islanders that will become the future leaders of their governments.

Last year, 21 participants graduated from the pilot ELDP, representing American Samoa, Guam, the CNMI, FSM, the Marshall Islands, Palau and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

This year’s participants will meet for four, one-week courses in Guam, Palau, Majuro and Hawaii from July 2010 to May 2011.

The four courses:

• Individual Assessment and Kickoff (Guam, July 26-31)

• Leadership (Palau, Nov 8-13)

• Managing Organizations, People and Processes (Majuro, Feb 7-12)

• Capstone — Facing the Future (Hawaii, May 2-6, 2011)

The ELDP is open to individuals who have been employed with their government on a full-time basis for at least two years.

Although a bachelor’s degree is strongly recommended, it is not required.

The Graduate School is accepting applications from all government departments including semi-autonomous agencies and component units.

If you, or someone you know, might be a good fit for the program, encourage them to apply.

The deadline for applications is April 15, 2010.

All fees associated with participation will be covered by the Pacific Islands Training Initiative, with funding support from the U.S. Department of the Interior’s Office of Insular Affairs.
