Municipal council member Eric Diaz said the block captains and task force organizers recently met with Education Commissioner Rita Sablan and other PSS officials to discuss the possible integration of the task force into the school system.
He said PSS, for example, may tap the members of the JROTC in the peace and development program of the task force.
However, he said, the task force and PSS have yet to define the role of the JRTOC.
Moreover, he added, students must secure parental consent before they can participate.
“An adult must also be present at all times to oversee minors,” he said.
Diaz believes that the task force’s concepts and objectives can easily be integrated into school programs.
He said there’s a need to involve PSS because all schools are located within the villages.
Unity among community members is very important to help curb criminality on island, he added.
“We asked for a meeting to meet with [education officials]. We want them to take a role and be a part of the task force,” he said.
