Legislative archives relocated

Researchers, including legislators, legal counsels, and the public have to travel an extra mile to reach the archives’ new location, an old storage building, House no. 1351, on Capital Hill.

Legislative Bureau Deputy Director Glenna S. Palacios-Reyes said the relocation of the archives happened before she and Director Jack Omar were named the LB’s top officials.

“The former archive space in the legislative building has been transformed into four office spaces,” she said. “Again, this was done by the previous director, with the exception of one office space that was recently opened up to accommodate one of the two new members of the House of Representatives.”

Palacios-Reyes said the archives are “now more organized and manageable after Director Omar instituted the change.”

Citing the 2000 Census, the CNMI high court ruling said the House of Representatives must have two additional seats for Saipan — from 16 to 18.

Rota and Tinian have one House member each.
