Liberation Day parade to honor Tudela

This was disclosed by Saipan Municipal Council member Felipe Atalig, who was appointed 53rd Liberation Day parade and float subcommittee chairman.

“For his long service in the government, we have to recognize the outgoing mayor of Saipan,” Atalig said.

In honor of Tudela, he said they will have a special float that will be followed by a band.

He said the committee wants to pay tribute to Tudela for his eight years as the island’s mayor.

The parade will also highlight different ethnic organizations.

In a separate interview, Tudela said the Liberation Day steering committee wanted to have additional features this year.

But with the limited funding, the mayor said they must stick to programs they can afford.

Atalig said  they will ask the Public School System to strongly urge each school to join the parade.

With more participants, Saipan can project a message that it will always overcome whatever challenges it faces, he added.

The mayor appointed Jack Omar as the overall chairman of the Liberation Day Committee.

He has yet to appoint  the heads of the various subcommittees.
