LISS to distribute school supplies to Garapan school

The LISS students will be at the Garapan school tomorrow to distribute school supplies.

LISS Director Wayne Pangelinan yesterday said University of Guam’s Jeanalyn Benavente, and Risa Hameister will arrive today to join the distribution of school supplies as part of the LISS Humanitarian “Back To School” Project.

Benavente and Hameister will bring their own humanitarian donations for Garapan school.

On Wednesday, students of Koblerville Elementary School received their donations from LISS.

Pangelinan said the donations for Garapan include notebooks, pens, pencils, school bags, erasers, sharpeners, crayons and rulers.

He said the humanitarian class has worked diligently to solicit donations from local businesses and CNMI officials.

“We are pleased with the outcome and our goal is to ensure that what we do will benefit a lot of students,” he added.

LISS is also soliciting the Marianas Visitors Authority’s support.

Pangelinan is asking MVA for any leftover Saipan-da backpacks used to promote local tourism.

“Our class is hoping we could get at least get 200 pieces of Saipan-da backpacks for this cause. I understand it is used to promote tourism, but at the same time it is important that our youth see the product/mascot and take pride in what our tourism office is doing,” he said.

Pangelinan said the LISS class has already provided 497 students with school supplies and is hoping to benefit 200 more.
