Local artists urged to join Christmas art exhibit

Commonwealth Council for Arts & Culture education/festival coordinator Parker Y. Yobei yesterday said they are hoping to hold the exhibit at the Hyatt.

“We are calling on all artists registered with the council to come in and register for free and turn in your arts and crafts for the month long exhibit,” Yobei said.

Like other Arts Council exhibits, the event will allow local artists to showcase their creativity and create a link with the art collectors/buyers.

“It will also be a great exhibit to find island scenes like paintings and photographs, Christmas cards, ornaments, as well as crafts,” Yobei said.

Proceeds will all go back to the artists — the council will not get any share.

“All artists need to bring are two photos of themselves and six pictures of their work,” Yobei said.

Last September, the council conducted the Cultural Pacifica Arts Exhibit — its second major exhibit of the year — in the lobby of the Hyatt. It drew  over 700 visitors during the month-long event and resulted in brisk sales for participating artists.

Yobei said all interested artists may register at the council office on Capital Hill during office hours, or the may call 322-9982/83 for more information.
