A 49-year-old male bicyclist died Tuesday evening after being struck by a vehicle along Chalan Pale Arnold in Puerto Rico, according to the Department of Public Safety.
DPS 911 Dispatch received the call at 6:29 p.m. on Nov. 4. Officers who responded found the bicyclist on the roadway just south of Tropical Laundry, receiving treatment from Department of Fire and Emergency Medical Services medics.
DPS Public Information Officer Fred Sato said, “Preliminary investigation revealed the bicyclist was traveling north in the outer lane when he was hit by a mid-size SUV driven by a 57-year-old man, also heading north. The driver told police the bicyclist had come to a stop on the roadway, and he [the driver] was unable to brake in time.”
DFEMS medics transported the victim to the Commonwealth Health Center, where he was pronounced dead at 6:55 p.m.
The DPS Highway Patrol Division’s Traffic Investigations Unit continues to investigate the incident.
