Used motor oil found dumped in trash bin — again

COMMUNITY volunteer and Parks and Recreation employee Max Aguon, along with his co-worker Joe Agulto, discovered used motor oil dumped in a trash bin at a beach near the Commonwealth Utilities Corporation power plant in Puerto Rico on Wednesday afternoon.

Aguon told Variety that they were on their routine trash pickup when they noticed a black liquid inside the trash bin coming from bottles in a plastic bag.

“When we picked it up, we saw that the used motor oil had spilled inside. Not good,” Aguon added.

In the CNMI, used oil disposal is federally regulated, and its disposal at the municipal landfill is prohibited.

A person may face criminal penalties if caught disposing of used motor oil illegally.

On Saipan, one can properly dispose of used motor oil at several auto service locations that also perform oil changes or accept used oil.
