NEARLY 150 women from the private and public sectors, representing different generations, gathered Thursday at the Governor Pedro P. Tenorio Multi-Purpose Center for the 12th Women’s Summit hosted by the Commonwealth Women’s Association.

A total of 145 participants attended this year’s summit, themed “Give to Gain,” which also marked the organization’s 15th anniversary since its incorporation under the leadership of the late former House Vice Speaker Felicidad T. Ogumoro.

Gov. David M. Apatang granted administrative leave for participants attending the event, while Sonya P. Dancoe, P.E., president of SP Dancoe & Associates, presented a check donation in support of the summit.

Also in attendance were Senate Vice President Corina L. Magofna, House Speaker Edmund S. Villagomez, House Floor Leader Marissa Flores, and Superior Court Associate Judge Teresa Kim-Tenorio.

In his remarks, Apatang said it was an honor to join women across the CNMI in celebrating both the summit and the milestone anniversary of the association.

“For 15 years, the Commonwealth Women’s Association has uplifted women across our islands, creating opportunities for leadership, professional growth, and civic engagement,” the governor said.

He also recognized women serving in the military, particularly those from the CNMI, noting their contributions to national security and public service.

Reflecting on the theme, Apatang said “Give to Gain” underscores the importance of investing in women through mentorship, opportunity, and support.

“When we invest in women, we all benefit; stronger women mean stronger families, stronger workplaces, and stronger communities,” he said.

The governor added that women continue to play a vital role in shaping today’s increasingly complex world.

“Women provide strong advice and demonstrate unwavering leadership. We must listen, and women must continue to speak clearly and confidently,” he said, congratulating the association for its 15 years of service and impact.

CWA President Les Ogumoro said the summit reflects the organization’s continued commitment to its founding mission.

“As we celebrate 15 years, we are not only continuing the legacy of my mother, but we are also bringing women together to share resources, give our time, and truly live out this year’s theme, ‘Give to Gain,’” she said.

Ogumoro described the turnout as encouraging, noting participation from both government and private sector professionals across generations.

“We have a wide range of women here today, and many are attending the summit for the first time,” she said.

She added that the organization plans to sustain the momentum through upcoming workshops, including sessions focused on financial literacy.

Ogumoro also expressed appreciation to the governor, the Legislature, and the legislative delegation for their continued support.

Event emcee Becky Dania Mettao said the theme reflects a simple but meaningful principle.

“When organizations and individuals give women opportunities, like this event, the entire community benefits. Everyone gains,” she said.
