MEMBERS of the community will gather at 6 p.m. today, Friday, April 24, at the 13 Fishermen pavilion to hold a prayer vigil for the missing crew members of the M/V Marianas, which overturned in the waters off the CNMI at the height of Super Typhoon Sinlaku last week.
Rep. John Paul Sablan announced the schedule of the prayer vigil during Thursday’s House emergency session. He said he was informed by family members of the crew about the candlelight vigil.
“I just want to announce this to the members of the public so we can show more support to the families,” Sablan said.
Rep. Blas Jonathan Attao said he understands it is a challenge to find water right now, but he urged his House colleagues to bring whatever they can to assist families at the vigil, including bottled water for those attending.
“What we can get together today, that would be great to assist in this candlelight vigil for our brothers who were lost at sea during Super Typhoon Sinlaku,” Attao said.
House Floor Leader Marissa Flores, on behalf of the 24th House of Representatives, said, “We offer condolences to the families during these times of suffering and loss.”
The body of one of the six crew members of the cargo vessel was recovered by divers from the U.S. Air Force 31st Rescue Squadron.
The search for the five remaining crew members continues, according to the U.S. Coast Guard.
