(CNMI Homeland Security and Emergency Management) — Based on information received from the National Weather Service in Tiyan, Guam and compiled at CNMI Emergency Operations Center-State Warning Point:
A flood watch is now in effect through Monday afternoon.
What: Flash flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues to be possible.
Where: Guam, Rota, Saipan and Tinian.
Impacts: Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Flooding may occur in poor drainage and urban areas.
A broad tropical disturbance is interacting with a shear line, and will continue to impact the Marianas Saturday evening, Sunday, and into Monday. Several rounds of locally heavy rainfall will be possible during this time frame. This could lead to 4 to 8 inches of rain across the Marianas with locally higher amounts possible.
Gov. David M. Apatang is advising residents of Saipan, Tinian, and Rota to monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action should flash flood warnings be issued. If living near streams and rivers, prepare to move items away from stream and river banks. Make sure storm drains nearby are not clogged, especially in low-lying areas.
